DB Work is one of the recruitment agencies that are always looking for specialists, professionals and experienced people. We have job offers with various benefits in the naval, industrial, construction, and logistics fields.

The surest way to get such a job is to prove your experience, but for certain positions, also certifications and qualifications, which prove that you are a true professional. We will discuss these certificates in this article.

Don't forget to check the job vacancies on https://www.dbwork.jobs/en/vacancies every day, because you have a good chance of finding good job offers in the Netherlands.

DB Work can help you get certified

If this is your first experience with a job abroad and you don't have the necessary certifications to work abroad, the DB Work team will help you with all the instructions and information you need to obtain them. You just need to want to work and have experience, and the DB Work team will guide you through the rest of the formalities.

Certificates or specific requirements in the Naval field

The most important certificate you will need if you decide to go to work in the Netherlands is the VCA certificate. Although it is mandatory for all those who want a job in the naval field, it is not only related to this field, but is sometimes required or an advantage in other fields where you will want to work abroad.

VCA is short for VGM Checklist voor Aannemers and is proof that the future employee knows all the rules regarding safety and work protection. This enables them to work safely, which is extremely important when it comes to a field such as shipping.

The VCA certificate is required for employment in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, but there is a good chance you will also be required for countries such as Austria, Sweden and Germany.

Fields where the VCA certificate is mandatory: Electrical, Transport, Heavy Industry, Naval, Construction, Electromechanical, and Petrochemical.

If you do not have this certificate, the DB Work team will provide you with all the information you need to obtain it, add it to your file and then be eligible for a job in the Netherlands in the naval, industrial or construction sector.

For some jobs, such as Shipfitters or Shipfitters, employers have special mandatory requirements for prospective employees, for example that they have knowledge of isometric drawing, or knowledge of plan interpretation / technical drawing. A diploma is not usually required for these, as experience also proves such knowledge.

Authorizations for welders

The official institution from where you can obtain certifications for all types of welding is CNCIR - National Company for the Control of Boilers, Lifting Installations and Pressure Vessels S.A. Depending on the job or the branch for which you want to obtain a certification, you will have to take certain tests to obtain the so-called certificates. For some jobs, these certifications are mandatory, while for others they are just a hiring advantage over other candidates.

Here is an official list of all the certifications a welder can get.

CNCIR CERT certifies welding personnel according to the standard:

1) SR EN 9606-1:2017 - Certification of welders. Fusion welding. Part 1: Steels, covering competence in one or more of the following welding processes:

  • 111 - electric arc welding (electric arc welding with coated electrode);
  • 114 - arc welding with self-shielding flux-cored wire;
  • 121- flux-cored welding with semi-mechanized electrode wire;
  • 125 - flux-cored welding with an electrode - flux cored wire;
  • 131 - arc welding with a fusible electrode in an inert gas environment - MIG welding;
  • 136 - flux cored MAG welding;
  • 138 - MAG welding with flux cored flux cored wire;
  • 141- arc welding in inert gas environment with tungsten electrode - WIG/TIG welding;
  • 1412 - WIG/TIG welding with autogenous arc (without filler material);
  • 143 - WIG/TIG welding with wire/tubular rod;
  • 145 - WIG/TIG welding with reducing gas and solid wire/rod;
  • 15 - plasma welding;
  • 311 - oxyacetylene welding.

For each welder position, DB Work's team of recruiters will mention which certification is required, and depending on eligibility you may get the job or you may have to obtain such certification through an exam.

Other education, qualifications, specialist knowledge

Depending on the complexity of the industry or field in which you want to get a job, the certifications or diplomas required by the employer may differ. For example, for some of the jobs available through DB Work, only proof of vocational schooling is sufficient.

There are also specific requirements for industrial jobs, even if diplomas or certificates are not required. For example, some employers looking for plumbers ask for experience working with Uponor/Henco presses, so you should have a solid knowledge of these tools.

In other cases, some diplomas or knowledge are optional, but are an advantage when hiring. For example, for jobs in the logistics field, valid Reach-Truck or Forklift operating licenses are not eliminatory for candidates, but you have an advantage if you have them.

Most of the time, the DB Work team has offers ready for all categories of qualified specialists in the marine, industrial, logistics or construction fields, so it shouldn't put you off if your certification wasn't mentioned in this article.
