Naval Mechanic

Generally speaking, if you get a job as a naval mechanic in the Netherlands, your main responsibilities will be the maintenance and repair of ships and boats of all kinds. Here we're talking about cruise ships, boats of all sizes, commercial naval craft and more. Included in this maintenance, inspection and repair activity are the maintenance processes of mechanical and hydraulic systems as well as navigation or safety equipment on board. 

Another task of a naval mechanic may be the installation or replacement of equipment. In the event of modifications to a vessel, marine engineers are heavily involved in this work. 

Naval Welder

Ship welders are sought after by both shipbuilding and repair yards. Depending on the type of permits you hold and your experience as a professional, there are different activities you can undertake.

Ship Painter

A ship painter may have the following tasks during the period of their employment with one of the employers in the Netherlands: 

  • Painting and finishing interior and exterior surfaces
  • Applying coats of paint and varnish
  • Maintenance and repair of painting equipment
  • Pre-treatment of surfaces before painting

Naval carpenter

Carpenters are responsible for the fabrication and installation of wooden elements in ships, such as flooring, furniture, doors, windows, etc. Working with different types of wood is an advantage and carpenters must certainly have knowledge of milling, sanding, polishing, etc.

Naval Plater

Naval platers have a very important job in the naval industry. They are responsible for repairing, maintaining and fabricating metal components in ships, such as piping, scaffolding, heating systems, pipes. 

The materials processed by a plater are steel, aluminum, copper and others. They need skills in assembling and carrying out quality inspections of components.

Naval Electrician

A naval electrician's responsibilities include installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems. This includes lighting, communication, navigation, GPS, and radio systems. At the same time, the naval electrician must carry out regular inspections to ensure that they are working properly. 

Naval Pipefitter

The naval pipefitter is responsible for the maintenance and repair of hot and cold water pipes, gas pipes, fuel pipes made of different materials such as aluminium, copper or steel. The assembly of piping systems is another important component of a Naval Pipefitter's job description.
